Virtual IT: Accountants vs. Accounting Software
May 26th, 2007 | By Joshua Feinberg | Category: Virtual ITMany involved in virtual IT may wonder, “When should I hire an accountant?” There are many types of excellent accounting software packages available. Still, hiring an accountant to supplement software is important if you want to stay ahead of the competition.
Accountant vs. Accounting Software
In the world of virtual IT, the question of whether to hire an accountant or use accounting software is not an either/or question. Small businesses too small for an in-house accountant should still hire an outside accountant to supplement the accounting software.
Which Accounting Software Programs Should You Use?
Intuit QuickBooks and other similar programs are a great addition to any virtual IT plan. Small business owners with little or no accounting background can easily understand invoicing and bill paying strategies. An outside expert such as a CPA should be called upon three or four times annually to deal with end-of-year tax projections and tax return preparations.
Outsourcing vs. Keeping it Internal
Outsourcing all accounting and bookkeeping to an external expert is not entirely desirable as part of a comprehensive virtual IT plan. It is expensive and it makes small business owners more disconnected when it comes to daily financial tasks associated with running a business. Combine in-house virtual IT accounting software with outsourced accounting work to get the most out of your business.
The Bottom Line About Virtual IT and Accounting
If you can afford a full-time accountant and bookkeeper, by all means put this person on payroll. Otherwise, use a combination of virtual IT accounting software and an outsourced accountant to fulfill your needs.
