Many technology vendors do not understand that there is a real and marked difference between the needs of a SOHO and a small business.  Many industry analysts and product managers believe that cross-over happens at 1-9 workstations and not 10-50 workstations when in reality there is a different truth.

Outside of product managers and industry analysts, there is no real one-size-fits-all solution within the small business sector because each business is so fragmented when it comes to its needs for tech support.  Industry, occupations and applications dictate the needs much better than mainstream advertising lingo and hype.

For a small business owner to really get value from a tech support vendor, the vendor has to really understand the true business problems and not just provide a superficial band-aid fix to the broken hardware, software and peripherals.  This is what is at the heart of IT consulting and “virtual IT.”
