Many in the computer consulting business find themselves very unhappily employed as IT professionals working for someone else.  However, a lot find the process of starting a computer consulting company daunting and are unaware of everything the process requires.

Starting your own computer consulting business is very possible and can be lucrative if you are no longer happy working as an IT professional for someone else.  If you keep in mind the challenges that lie ahead and plan carefully, you can go from unhappily employed to HAPPILY working for yourself in the computer consulting arena.

Starting Your Own Computer Consulting Business Takes Time

Many consultants underestimate the time it will take to build a stable and profitable client base.  Getting one-shot deal $99 customers is easy.  But getting a $25,000 network upgrade is more complex and involves a definite sales cycle.  The key in computer consulting, especially at the beginning is patience.

The Importance of Targeted Marketing

Targeted marketing is also something computer consulting professionals often overlook.  And they end up copying the structure of a totally different type of business or tech giants that have huge marketing budgets.

Focus on Business Skills

Most computer consultants going into business for themselves also spend too much time keeping up with the latest trends in technology.  Those in computer consulting need to instead focus on getting business-owner skills that will keep them running long term.
